Welcome to Calgary!  

ATU Local 583 is honoured to welcome you to the city of Calgary for the ATU Canada Conference. I’d like to give you all a quick history of our Local:

In February 1912, Calgary Municipal Railway men met at the Trades and Labour hall and voted unanimously to organize a Local of the Amalgamated Association of Street and Electric Railway Employees of America (AASEREA).

Later that same month a Toronto Organizer – Magnus Sinclair arrived in Calgary and the AASEREA issued a charter to the newly established Local 583. A second charter was issued in 1915 with the help of ATU 569 – Edmonton. Our relationship remains as strong today as it surely was back then.

ATU 569-Edmonton and ATU 583-Calgary are pleased to co-host two Hospitality Nights on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and we hope you will join us! Please see the Agenda on the Conference App for further details.

Our history spans over 100 years and absolutely would not have been as successful as it has been without workers like yourselves. Your own cities founded charters and began the tireless work of Unionism which has led to you being here with us today; and we could not be more thrilled to host each and every one of you.

Sisters and Brothers of the ATU, we wish you great success at this conference.  We hope you enjoy your time in Calgary and leave with lasting memories of our vibrant city!
