Dear ATU Canada National Conference attendees,

On behalf of the entire Amalgamated Transit Union, it is my distinct honour to extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you to the 2024 ATU Canada Conference.

In the spirit of our conference theme, “Together We Rise,” we recognize the extraordinary contributions and unwavering dedication of our members across this great nation. Your commitment to ensuring safe, reliable, and accessible transportation services is not only commendable but essential to our communities.

From Local 1767-Sault Ste. Marie, ON, rallying for a fair contract to Local 569-Edmonton, AB, Local 1320-Peterborough, ON, and Local 616-Windsor, ON, authorizing strikes, to Local 1572-Mississauga, ON, engaging in an aggressive campaign to win their contract, and Local 107-Hamilton, ON, going on a successful strike to the Local 113-Toronto, ON, strike threat and “United to Win Campaign” to secure our members a strong contract – the battles you waged against incredible adversity have inspired us all.

This conference will serve as a platform for our continued collaboration, innovation, and solidarity. Together, we will explore new strategies, address challenges, and celebrate our collective achievements. Your insights, experiences, and voices are invaluable as we chart the course for the future of transit in Canada.

As members, you embody the spirit of unity and advocacy that defines the ATU. Your presence here underscores our shared commitment to advancing the rights, protections, and interests of transit workers and our passengers.

I am confident that through our collective efforts, we will continue to elevate the standards of public transportation and empower those who rely on it every day.
